Bath-based full fibre broadband provider Truespeed announces the appointment of James Lowther as its new CEO. Succeeding former CEO Evan Wienburg, James’s telecoms industry pedigree and experience in helping to build high-growth businesses make him the ideal candidate to lead the full fibre infrastructure provider and ISP’s next phase of growth.

James brings over 16 years of experience in the telecoms sector, most recently as Group Chief Commercial Officer at mobile company Lebara, and previously as Chief Marketing Officer at Gigaclear.

Prior to this, James spent four years in Sweden at the quad-play service provider Com Hem (now Tele2 Group) where he held the role of Director of Business to Consumer and led the consumer division through a very successful period of growth. Before that, James spent six years at Virgin Media in various senior roles; he began his career at BT.

“I would like to thank our outgoing CEO Evan Wienburg for his energy and passion since the firm’s inception – and for building Truespeed into the thriving, award-winning, community-oriented business it is today.  James is taking over the CEO reins at a pivotal time. We are embarking on our next major growth phase to bring ultrafast, ultra-reliable, full-fibre broadband connectivity to hundreds of thousands of families and businesses in the South West. James’s dynamism, leadership track record and breadth of experience will be invaluable as we move forward.”

Clarke Osborne, Truespeed Chairman

Having evolved from initially supplying rural areas, Truespeed’s full-fibre network now spans rural, urban and semi-urban communities. With two cities Wells and Bath and big-name clients including Thatcher’s Cider and Yeo Valley under its belt, Truespeed has successfully expanded its network across the South West.

With customer needs firmly at its helm, Truespeed has diversified its product offering from its initial 200Mbps package into an array of customer-orientated broadband solutions. With 150300600 and 900Mbps packages available, the company has successfully expanded its product portfolio to benefit residents and businesses alike.

“I am delighted to join Truespeed as we ramp up the next phase of our mission to roll out ultrafast, ultra-reliable broadband that will level up the South West. Truespeed has a great team in place and we will push hard on the throttle to accelerate our network build.”

James Lowther, Truespeed CEO

Truespeed is excited to have James at the helm for its next phase of growth and is looking forward to continuing its work to bring the South West out of the digital slow lane.

A message from Evan Wienburg

After 8 years at the helm, driving the company to a significant regional power, Evan Wienburg has decided to leave Truespeed to pursue a new challenge.

Truespeed Chairman, Clarke Osborne said “We are sad to see Evan leave Truespeed after almost 8 years of sterling work in a company that has grown from a community investment company with 10 employees to a major regional supplier of Ultrafast fibre optic broadband and a team which now exceeds 150. Evan has been a driving force in developing and leading the company from its humble beginnings to the significant provider it is today, and his people first approach has been instrumental in our development and growth. He will be missed by the team.

Evan Wienburg said “It’s been a brilliant 8 years and I have had a fantastic time bringing together a great team and building Truespeed into the significant regional full fibre provider it is today. We have achieved significant growth in challenging times and brought a first-class service to thousands of homes and businesses. The key to our success is the fantastic team of people, all of whom I’m going to miss dearly. I am proud of them all and the difference we have together made to so many lives.

The Truespeed team are ready for further significant growth and will shortly announce some very exciting news. Now is the time to hand over the reins, with Truespeed well set to step into this next major phase of its journey. Whilst I move to pursue other exciting opportunities, I look back with sadness that I am leaving such a great team of people that has been my pleasure to work alongside. I will maintain a significant interest and stake in the company which I know will flourish as Truespeed accelerates its growth and reach, delivering what I believe is a truly better product and service to the South West region.

I thank our investors and my board colleagues for their support through these past 8 years. We have together been through the highs and lows of a pioneering company and through this unexpected and unprecedented pandemic that has challenged us all.  I want to thank our thousands of customers for choosing Truespeed and for their continued support. You made the right choice as Truespeed will continue to deliver a truly exceptional service.”

The Board would like to take the opportunity to thank Evan for his commitment and time since the business’s inception and to wish him every success in his next venture.
